Mitie is one of the UK’s leading FM companies delivering facilities management, consultancy, project management and specialist services to well-known public and private sector organisations. In 2012, Omni was selected as Mitie’s preferred partner to deliver end-to-end recruitment process outsourcing for its technical and engineering arm, managing all permanent, FTC and temporary resourcing.

Winning Best Supplier Relationship Management at the 2016 CIPS Awards – the crème de la crème of procurement and supply chain, demonstrates how the partnership between both organisations has evolved, with Omni seen as trusted advisors to Mitie, wholly integrated and embedded into their organisation delivering a diverse and sustainable recruitment solution.

Aims & Objectives

As well as bringing consistency and quality to the hiring manager and candidate journey and a reduction in the number of agencies they worked with, there were four key objectives Mitie wanted to achieve in order to optimise their recruitment:

• Better visibility and control of recruitment
• Consistency and better access to high quality talent
• Provision of a sustainable talent pool to support their business growth
• Reduction in agency reliance and temporary labour usage

Key Contract Achievements

• Saved over £5 million in recruitment spend to date through optimising direct sourcing and reducing temporary labour margins.
• Reduced agency reliance from 60% to 20% of all external hires across a very diverse business.
• Reduced Mitie’s use of temporary workers by half, helping to bring down both operational and recruitment costs.
• Consolidated Mitie’s agency supply chain and negotiated more competitive rates with preferred suppliers who are managed entirely by Omni’s dedicated supplier relationship team.
• Won Best Supplier Relationship Management at the 2016 CIPS Awards.
• Innovative candidate sourcing to give Mitie access to the widest and most diverse talent pool in line with their diversity & inclusion objectives.
• Ongoing support to Mitie and working in collaboration with partners to achieve planned diversity & inclusion objectives including working with diversity-led charities to open up employment opportunities to under-privileged groups, providing employment skills training and the creation of a microsite dedicated to diversity & inclusion at Mitie.
• Better visibility and control of recruitment
• Consistency and better access to high quality talent
• Provision of a sustainable talent pool to support their business growth
• Reduction in agency reliance and temporary labour usage
• Streamlined the recruitment process with the implementation of Omni’s ATS ‘Appellia’ which has brought best practice, process efficiencies and control & visibility of all recruitment activity.
• Delivery of management information and enhanced reporting to support Mitie with future resourcing strategy and workforce planning.
• Future-proofing Mitie’s access to the best talent via a dedicated resourcing team, continually building and nurturing a talent pipeline to be able to recruit the best-fit talent, quickly and far more cost effectively.
• Jointly designed and delivered a bespoke Recruitment Essentials training course for all hiring managers to bring consistency and optimise the recruitment process.
• Introduced a shared development fund with investment from both organisations, used to finance additional recruitment services and activities that support Mitie’s resourcing strategy and help keep them ahead of the curve in recruitment innovation.
• Successfully supported a number of local resourcing projects in short timescales for hard-to-fill and specialist engineering roles.
